Always Learning

Despite the winds, the torrential rain and the cold my garden is showing signs that Spring has sprung! Mostly I’m just letting it do it’s thing because I’ve become a bit of a fairweather gardener these days. No matter. I’ve designed my main front garden with plants that mostly take care of themselves and yet are beautiful. Pics to come!

On the art front, as you may know, I’m getting ready for my duo art show in August. First art show of this kind for me and my art friend and co-artist, Miriam Myers, https://www.miriammyers.com/. So we need to have a body of work that equals about 15 to 20 paintings each. I probably have at least that amount but for art shows its important to have a somewhat cohesive body of work. What does that mean? Well, Ive created several large-ish paintings using a consistent colour palette. And I’ve decided to show my abstract work only. Do you like turquoise and orangey reds? I love them and they can create, through colour mixing, a miriad of colours. Thats a little hint of what I’m working on.

So I’ve been busy! I’m hesitating to show my new work because I want it to have a sense of freshness. I’ve been showing little snippets on social media and I’ve had some great response.

On the juried show front I recently sold ‘Shipyard” through the FCA Arrowsmith Members show in Parksville,  https://arrowsmithfca.ca/  Its always a thrill to sell an art piece. And next up is the Artwrx Studio Gallery Small Wrx art show. May 12-22, 2023. I have submitted 15 minis (not guaranteed to all get in as it is a juried show) but it’ll be a fun show. Sizes range from 3″ x 4″ to 8″ x 8″. And the prices are great. Buy on line or in person. If you have some little nooks and crannies these sizes work well.  The Gala opening, in person, is on May 12th, 6-9 pm. I’ll be there.

Oh by the way, I have a few more minis available on my website that I didn’t enter. Check them out here: https://www.elaine-smith-art.com/all-art/small-abstracts

Did you know I’m trialing a new website through Squarespace? http://www.elaine-smith-art.com Check it out. I’m only focusing on my abstract work on thatsite (which you can buy there). I’d love feedback. Come on! I can take it. Honesty is valued.

Till next time!

xoxo Elaine
