What’s on my easel?

This week I started a course with Julie Prichard, artist in San Diego; find her here http://JuliePrichard.com I really like her abstract art. It has an ethereal quality and I like her colours. This has been really intriguing. Trying to follow along her suggestions via recorded videos….it’s not absolute in the sense that students are encouraged to make their own marks and use their own sense of style. The colour palette is different from what I would choose which is pretty cool. Prussian blue, a very dark blue, teal, cobalt blue, titanium white and spring green ( I had to mix my own….mixing colours is another huge topic!). There is also a live Facebook page you get to be part of and this is helpful as people post their work and receive real time feedback from Julie and other members.

Anyway, the first day I was in love with what I put on the canvas. Then the 2nd and dreaded day came. The day you lose what you think is going to be a brilliant painting. I’m not panicking too much though. I’ve had my third day and even though it still feels and looks like chaos I realize it’s going to take a few more days of applying layers of paint and marks. There are always these stages it seems. I thought it would be fun to document each day to see the differences. Oldest to latest versions  are from left to right. What do you think?

Happy Spring ….La Peche

I’ll keep adding the latest iteration…and there are 3 more abstract pieces to complete in the course.
