Happy October! I wanted to share a few further thoughts on inspiration for creating art! Lately, Ive been finding that working in a series has been fun and seems to help my brain generate new ideas. After finishing Louise Fletcher’s https://www.louisefletcherart.com/ 10 week Find Your Joy 2021 course I was filled with JOY! yay! and also lots of enthusiasm for working on series or ‘investigations’ as she call it.
My latest: ‘Life; boat series’ is based on some of my photos I took while camping on the Nanaimo River delta. One of my fav pics was of this one small white row boat moored close by. It made me start to think about how to build a series of paintings on one small boat because I loved the photo. Who knows how things get percolating (for you younger folks that’s a reference to an old-timey coffee maker) in my brain but basically I started thinking about the final ‘passage’ or ‘crossing’ using the small white boat as a metaphor for that final journey we all take. I’m just guessing at the influences here but there has been a lot of loss for all of us with Covid and for me personally I’ve lost 3 loved ones in the last year.
All of these paintings are small. I was also influenced by the hope of entering the upcoming Federation of Canadian Artist’s Ten Squared show, Dec 13-23, 2021, and was delighted to hear that #5 and #6 (hover over the photo to see titles, details etc) have been accepted. So those two will be in the Federation Gallery in Vancouver. Drop by to see all the amazing art and its a fundraiser for the Federation as well.
We hold hands and stroll to the edge of the cliff and picnic with our backs to the abyss.….Author unknown
My original photo that sparked the idea.
Go be creative. Till next time. Elaine
